Tolson Memorial Museum is OPEN

The clock in the clock tower is working, and the Museum is open. I cannot stress this too much. There continues to be a programme of activities and events in the Museum run both by the Museum staff and ‘Friends’. This museum tells the story of Huddersfield. It is full of our history. So many people tell me they visited as a child and found it fascinating. Well it still is. Do come and see.

Walk through the Heritage Memorial Garden and you will see a change. The footpath was poor. It should have been gravel set in tarmac but poor workmanship meant the gravel just didn’t stick. Thanks to a lot of effort by a Kirklees officer, it has been redone! It was not easy, half of it was done, and then later the second half was done. It still needs a final sweep. We will get there eventually.

We had a very successful Victorian Christmas Fair with Santa’s Grotto once again decorated for us by KD Decoratives. I am sure that you all have your 2017 diary to hand! So put in next years Victorian Christmas Fair. It will be Sunday 19th November.

We have a full programme for the Tea & Cake Community meetings for 2017. The T&C meetings take place at 2pm on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. We start the new year with a talk by Paul Stevens, our local weatherman. He invites us to come along with pictures of weather. At our meeting on Wednesday 8th February Ian Fillan, President of the Huddersfield Veterans will give an illustrated talk on the history of the Veterans.

We start our very popular Cream Teas with a Valentine’s Day Tea on Sunday 12th February. There will be one on Sunday 26th March to celebrate Mothering Sunday. Come and enjoy a traditional cream tea served in the Morning Room on china. In the new year we plan a series of craft sessions, detail later.

However, join us for Carols and Songs at 2pm on Sunday 18th December. We have Kirklees Youth Brass Band and Colne Valley Singers with us. Enjoy a real Christmassy event with a hot drink or glass of mulled wine and mince pie. There will be a collection.

Please come and support our events. We are open for business. The ‘Friends’ continue to work for Tolson to be the ‘Museum of Huddersfield’.

A Merry Christmas to you all.
