Tolson Memorial Museum – the ‘Friends’ 100 items collection

We had a very successful St Valentines Cream Tea. Several who had joined us then went to look around the museum and chose exhibits they would like to be included in our list of 100 items. One of these was the David Brown Valveless Car. This car is one of the few of it’s type and is typical of the pre WW1, large, expensive, hand crafted and chauffeur driven. Another exhibit chosen was the early David Brown tractor. Our next Cream Tea in on 26th March which is Mothering Sunday.

Keeping with the Transport theme we are delighted to announce that thanks to the support of Tracey and Stephen of T&C Almondbury, we are holding the Tolson Cake Challenge. A cake has to be decorated or shaped as some form of transport. Have a go, it should be fun to see what ideas cake makers come up with – details below.

Friends Gardening Club

2nd Saturday each month. Heritage Memorial Garden.

10am on Saturday 11th March

Come along and improve your well being!!!! Honestly you will.

Gardening can be hard work, we all know that! It can also be incredibly rewarding. And if you have company while you do it, that makes it even more pleasurable. An article in this months ‘Gardeners World’ by Nick Triggle, the BBC Health Correspondent tells of the positive benefits of getting out into the garden. It is gentle exercise that helps keep the joints moving. Gardening also burns calories so can help with keeping the weight down. Any aspect of gardening from garden design to the mundane job of weeding can be extremely rewarding.

The Heritage Memorial Garden to the rear of Tolson Museum is a particular satisfying place in which to garden. In a lovely setting away from traffic, it is an area of calm in this busy world.

Come and join us for a couple hours. Refreshments are provided. We also have a range of tools if you are not able to bring your own. You will find it very rewarding.
