On a cold and blustery day in November pupils from Netherhall High School planted saplings in Ravensknowle Park. The Friends of Tolson and Ravensknowle had applied to the Woodland Trust for a free pack of trees to replace some taken down in the park. The trees had been removed when Moldgreen School was temporarily relocated to Ravensknowle Park.
The ‘Friends’ were awarded a Woodland Trust small pack which consists of thirty saplings, 10 silver birch, 10 rowan and 10 wild cherry. Pupils from Netherhall High School had volunteered to come and plant the trees. The work was supervised by officers from Kirklees Parks Department. These trees will enhance the park and encourage birds and wild life to the area.
Pupils of Netherhall Junior School took part in the Service of Remembrance that was held at 11am on 11th November in the Heritage Memorial Garden.
Tolson Junior Parkrun – Launch Sunday 27th March 9am
It’s happening! The course has been mapped out. Parkrun, which is a national organisation, have agreed the course and Kirklees have paid the fees. We now have the Tolson Junior Parkrun and children from 4 to 14 will be able to take part every Sunday from 9am.
Louise Galvin, an experienced runner, has taken on the role of Run Director and we have a committee. We could still do with some more marshals. If, occasionally, you could give an hour on Sunday morning from about 8.45 that would be a great help.
The ‘Friends’ will also be providing refreshments after the run. A trial run will be held on Sunday 20th March with the launch on Easter Sunday at 9am on 27th March, so if you have children, grandchildren, who would enjoy seeing how fast they can run, get them along !
It really is fun. The course is 2 km and they can go ‘on line’ to see how they fast they run.
