Celebrating Huddersfield Textiles
This newsletter is coming to you a little early as I don’t want you to miss out!
The Friends are having their first Celebration of Huddersfield Textiles show on Sunday 28th October. It promises to be a day full of interest with a variety of stalls and demonstrations relating to textiles. There will be spinning, weaving, and rag rug making, a display by one of our famous local textile firms, artefacts relating to the textile industry and craft work and pictures made with cloth. There will be a display of the work of students of the Textiles Department of Huddersfield University. As ever the ‘Friends’ will be serving refreshments. A day not to be missed.
Unveiling of the ‘There but not There’ Tommy
We were honoured to have the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Mr Ed Anderson to unveil the ‘There but not there’ Tommy’ on 20th October. He was accompanied by Mrs Anderson. It was exactly 100 years since 2Lt James Tolson was killed in action In France. Huddersfield Veterans provided a ‘Guard of Honour’ on their arrival. A group of 8 pupils from Almondbury Community School presented a programme of poetry and prose about the WW1. They were introduced by the teacher Mrs Jane Lees who had worked with them on this project. After refreshments the film ‘Loss and Legacy, the Tolson Story’ was shown.
Autumn in the Museum and Garden
Mikron Theatre once again put on a fantastic show in the Heritage Memorial Garden and we had our biggest audience ever. We can now access electricity in the performance area. We have been given more plants for the Garden and we have a the small group of gardeners who meet regularly to work in it. The Garden is a lovely peaceful place to work. If you like gardening do come and join us.
