THE FUTURE OF TOLSON MEMORIAL MUSEUM

Come and join us to hear about the plans for Tolson Museum.

GOOD NEWS – GOOD NEWS – GOOD NEWS

Kirklees Council Cabinet has allocated £300,000 in the budget 2019 – 2020 to repair the roof of the Museum building . The ‘temporary’ boiler is also in the schedule to be replaced.

I did check the £300.000 figure!! It is correct. This is largest sum allocated in the Corporate Landlord Asset Investment Programme 2019/20 and the expected delivery period is 2019 / 20. This is wonderful news.

Annual General Meeting

On Sunday 19th May it is the Annual General Meeting of the ‘Friends of Tolson and Ravensknowle. The committee of the Friends of Tolson & Ravensknowle still meet on a monthly basis and it is our seventh annual general meeting. It promises to be a really interesting meeting because the story of the roof is not the only good news.

The Museums and Galleries Service has been awarded a Resiliance Heritage Lottery Award. Deborah Marsland, Museums & Galleries Manager and Kathryn White, Business & Audiences Manager are coming to talk about this award and the future of the Museum at our Annual Meeting on Sunday 19th May. They are calling their presentation ‘Bringing out the Best’.

Do come to find out what this means and how this award will enhance the future of Tolson Museum. Take this opportunity not only to hear what is happening but to ask questions of the Kirklees officers.

Easter Egg Hunt

Our new event of the year, the Easter Egg Hunt turned out to be real success, so much so that we ran out of questionnaires!

The hunt mainly required the participants to go outside the Museum to find answers to questions. It was a lovely afternoon which helped the enjoyment of the event. We plan to make it an annual event, making sure that we have enough quizzes for everyone.

Tolson Junior Parkrun

On Easter Sunday we celebrated the third anniversary of the Tolson Junior Parkrun. As ever it was well attended. We shared a celebration cake with the usual refreshments in the Bowling Green Hut afterwards. Our Run Director Louise, who started the event, was not with us as she was in Australia, however a picture was taken of Jeanette, Keith, Clare, Helen and myself all who have been in it from the beginning.
