Heritage Memorial Garden at Tolson Museum – Nearly there!
The fencing has gone. You can now walk round the garden. The basic framework is there and the contractors have nearly completed their work. Now will follow the inclusion of the features to bring the garden to life and reflect the influence of local schools, the local community and the ‘Friends’.
There are three ‘community gardens’ and pupils from King James School, Almondbury High School and a group of the ‘Friends’ are to plant this month. These gardens, and all the gardens on this site, will be maintained by the ‘Friends’ with the help of the Sea Scouts. Each of the gardens will be surrounded by a dry stone wall and they will be constructed with the help of several of the ‘Friends’.
A sculpture by Peter Maris is to be the focal point of the garden. The design reflects ideas from the work that Peter did with pupils at Moor End Academy, Almondbury High School, local residents and the ‘Friends’. The stone for the sculpture will be shortly delivered to the garden and Peter will work on it in situ. Come and see him work.
Stone seats in the shape of a poppy will be installed and Peter is also to lay the timeline that reflects ideas from the Almondbury Schools Partnership.
An exhibition of the work pupils created when working with Peter will be on display at the museum at the opening of the garden (now planned for 12th October – more later).
